Xserve RAID was a mass storage device from Apple. It was announced together with the Xserve G4. In a rack-optimized storage enclosure, it offers massive superfluous storage. It was rack mountable and was 3U high. Xserve RAID had a capacity of 10.5 TB and it held up to 14 hot swappable Ultra-ATA hard drives. It managed its hard drives with two identical RAID controller chipsets. It uses Fibre Channel for high speed transfers between an Xserve with a Fibre Channel PCI card installed. When both Fibre Channel ports are used, this allows a guaranteed delivery of 400MB/s (full duplex).

There is a 10/100 Ethernet port for remote management and a serial port for UPS communication via the Simple Signaling Protocol. It was mainly launched as a cohort to Xserve in file server and high-performance technical computing applications. The storage array is useful in a non linear video editing. This Xserve RAID is also available for the vendors who are using Windows Server 2003 or Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Users do not need a Mac to administer the Xserve RAID because it support cross-platform feature. Now it has been replaced with Promise VTrak E-Class RAID Subsystem.
