Data Recovery from Hitachi Travelstar 7K320 hard drive ?

I have been using Hitachi hard drive which runs on XP SP3 for the past 3-4 years. I made a program on my hard drive which runs o n NTFS file system. Couple of days back, I had taken the external to a friend’s home and there I connected it with the help of a USB to his computer which runs on FAT32. While I was transferring the program to his computer, a problem occurred and the computer asked me to format the external that I have connected to the computer. In order to avoid the formatting, I cancelled the operation and take off the external. Later on when I inserted the hard drive to my computer, the PC of mine was not able to recognize the file system and it was saying that the hard drive is completely blank. I was shocked to find out that my friend’s computer had created a FAT32 partition on the top of the NTFS and the hard drive is split into 2 partitions. I am in complete shock now as the hard drive contains lot of important college project of mine and I need to get access to them anyhow. So, I was looking for some suggestion regarding the data recovery from the Hitachi hard drive. Is there any data recovery software available that can recover the deleted files from the hard drive?
