Troubleshooting Rejected Disk: Not a Macintosh Disk!
Several times people faces problems with their Mac based computer system. When the Mac operating system does not able to access the disk then it gives following kinds of error messages:
- This is not a Macintosh disk : Do you want to initialize it?
- This disk is damaged: Do you want to initialize it?
These messages were generally occurred after you format your Macintosh Hard Drive and have not problems with it before, then what is wrong now? If the messages come on the screen, you are certain the disk is properly formatted, Click on No button. If you click yes then all the data on the disk is overwritten by Mac and lost. To save you data from being lost, lock the disk. This protects your data in case of problem is a damaged directory or misaligned drive, both these problems can cause from an unlocked disk.
These problems can lead you towards data loss situations and no one wants to lose their data at all. People use some methods to solve the problems like;
- 1.4 MB High-Density Disks – If the disk is 1.4 MB high-density disk and the drive can only read the 400K or 800K disks, it cannot be read by other than SuperDrive (FDHD, or floppy drive, high density).
- High-Density Disks – If the disk is high density disk and was formatted at 800K disk then your drive gives you message like “This disk is improperly formatted for this drive. Do you want to initialize it?” You need to remove the disk and reinsert it in an 800K drive. However if no 800K drive is available then you can trick the drive by putting tape over the hole in the upper left corner of the disk. Save any information you need from the disk onto the hard drive, eject the disk and remove the tape and reformat the disk as soon as possible.
* Note: This technique is only for emergencies.
Other techniques are,
- Try disk in to another drive
- Warm and Cold disks
